Leta Ebbens
Leta F. Ebben, 95, of the town of Holton, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Heartland Hospice.
She was born on January 29,1931, to the late Anton and Regina (Yessa) Hartl. Leta graduated from Stratford High School in 1948 and began her working years at Thorp Finance Corporation in Wausau and Thorp. On May 8, 1954, she married Leonard Ebben, who preceded her in death on April 24, 2013.
Following their marriage, Leonard and Leta lived in Milwaukee from 1954 to 1955 before purchasing a farm in the town of Frankfort. Together they farmed until 1980 when they moved to Edgar. While living in Edgar, Leta worked at the Edgar Library and later, in 1988, began working at the Bank of Edgar where she remained until her retirement in 1999.
In 1990 Leta and Leonard purchased a home in the town of Holton. Leta took great pride in her large garden filled with beautiful flowers. She was known for baking many wedding cakes for family and friends. During the Christmas season, Leta and her grandchildren made hundreds of cookies each year to share with loved ones. Her other favorite pastimes were reading and putting together puzzles.
Survivors include her five children: Brenda (Mark) Towsley, Gerald (Marlene) Ebben, Joan (Damien) Bondi, James Ebben and Harvey (Lindsay) Ebben; 12 grandchildren: Robert Kang, Casey Kang, Joseph Bondi, Abby (Karl) Repay, Ramana (Benny) Gutierrez, Nyssa Towsley (Michael Reis), Adric Towsley, Jenna (Kenneth) Riesen, Ryan Ebben, Logan Ebben, Amelia Ebben and Elliot Ebben; great-grandchildren: Leta Ray, Everly, Barrett, Karly and Nathaniel; one sister-in-law; two brothers-inlaw; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters: Marie Totzke, Agnes Totzke, Laura Mielke and Helen Brunner; brother, Leopold; and their spouses.
The funeral service was at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 11,2026, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 233500 County Road E, Milan, with Rev. Michael Mathey and Rev. Mark Schwalenberg presiding. Visitation began at 9 a.m. until the time of service, all at the church. Burial was in the Edgar Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.petersonkraemer.com.
