Jewel F. Goodwin
1939-2026
Jewel F. Goodwin, affectionately known as Jo, passed away on Jan. 28, 2026, in Wausau, at the age of 86.
Born on Sept. 19, 1939, in Fort Smith, Ark., Jo brought warmth and vitality into the world from the very beginning. Her spirited nature and outgoing personality made her a memorable presence to all who knew her.
Jo shared over five decades of companionship with her beloved husband and life partner of 52 years, Lee R. Yusten, of Westboro. Together, they built a life filled with enduring love and shared memories.
She was a devoted mother to her children, Lyle Qualls (Solita), of Florence, Colo., Geoffrey Qualls, of Denver, Colo., Lora Adams (Mike), of Kingman, Ariz., and Rochelle Cherek (Wally), of Wausau. She was a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to several grandchildren. Her family was central to her life, and she held each member close to her heart.
Jo was preceded in passing by her son, Daniel “Dano” Qualla; and daughters, Teresa Phelan and Marie Brugge. Their memories remained an important part of her life story.
In her quiet moments, Jo found joy in tending to her garden and challenging herself with crossword puzzles, card games, and reading- simple pleasures that reflected both her nurturing spirit and sharp mind.
Jo’s vibrant personality left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved her.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
