Vernon Raymond Brost, 90, of Medford, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025 at his home, under the care of his family and Hope Hospice. A memorial service for Vernon will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will take place at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025 from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Vernon was born at home on South Park Ave on June 7, 1935 to Anton J. and Margaret C. (Enders) Brost. Vernon attended 8 grades at Holy Rosary Catholic School and 4 years at Medford High School, Class of 1953.

After his education he drove truck for a short time for Kleist Bros. Trucking. He then returned to Gelhaus & Brost Chevrolet, where he previously worked during high school vacations.

On July 13, 1957 he married the beautiful, Myrna Oleson, who sadly passed away on May 3, 2000 at the age of 62.

From August 1962 to August 1992, he worked at G and B Salvage on Hwy 64, west of Medford. He also worked at Car Quest, delivering auto parts for close to 11 years, a job he really enjoyed.

Hobbies included collecting, working on and rebuilding old Chevy cars and pickups, especially his 1952 Chevy pickup, that he rebuilt from the ground up. He also enjoyed going to stock car races, car shows, truck pulls, watching NASCAR and football, woodworking, vacationing with his family and family cookouts. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and a lifelong member of Knights of Columbus.

Vernon is survived by his seven children, Peter (Jill), of Merrill, Michael (Julie), Jean (Brian) Clarkson, Kathleen (Bob) Messman, David “Scoob” (Carla) and twins, Jennifer (Nick Thomsen), all of Medford, and Dennis of Minneapolis, Minn.; his brother, Allen (Joanne), of Medford; three grandchildren, Nicole Brost, of Medford, Philip (Karen) Brost, of Wausau, and Emma Brost of River Falls; two great-grandchildren, Kenzie and Bailey Brost, of Wausau; sisters-in-law, Diane Cooper, of Medford, Linda Ryan, of Milton, and Bonnie (Lekie) Oleson, of Dorchester; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Oleson, of Rib Lake.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Myrna in 2000; his son, Patrick in 1979; siblings, Arlyle Mayer, Lambert “Red”, Margaret “Peg” Tuma, Marlene Dettmering, Rita Werner, Leroy and Thomas; and brotherin-law, Jack Oleson.
