1947-2025

On Oct. 23, 2025, Robert “Bob” Thompson, age 78, of Tony, passed away peacefully at home from lung cancer. Bob was born on Oct. 1, 1947, in Ladysmith, to Richard and Mary Ann (Latz) Thompson. He was the oldest of eleven children. He attended Gilman High School, class of 1965, participating in football and baseball. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, Ariz. Upon discharge, he returned to Wisconsin where he met and married his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia (Klug) Thompson.

Bob had a bright smile and was quick to laugh and joke around. He cared deeply for his large and extended family and friends and always asked after others and helped where he could. Bob especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He spent many days on his 40 acres of hunting land, often working, clearing, walking or riding around on it. It brought him great joy to spend time with his grandsons hunting, fishing, and watching them at their sporting events.

Bob will be sadly missed by his wife, Patricia; his children, Cory Thompson, of Shawano, Kelly (Jeff) Davis, of Fort Atkinson, Kevin (Niki) Thompson, of Fort Atkinson, and Curt Thompson, of Jefferson. He was a proud grandpa to six grandsons, Drew and Trent Davis, Mason, Benett, and Everet Thompson, and Ian Thompson. He is survived by eight siblings, Larry (Neva) Thompson, of Plains, Mont., Gloria (Dennis) Knisley, of Ramsey, Minn., Gary (Jan) Thompson, of Thompson Falls, Mont., Roger (Rita) Thompson, of Boscobel, Bill (Sharon) Thompson, of Kenai, Alaska, David (Sandy) Thompson, of Plains, Mont., Richard (Fredericka) Thompson, of Missoula, Mont., and Mary (Jeff) Smith, of Trout Creek, Mont. He is further survived by numerous nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Ann Thompson; as well as his brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Laurie Thompson; and sister Carol Thompson.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2025, at Tony Area Event Center, N5372 Maple Street, with Pastor Jeffrey Ahonen presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate and loving care. Memorials may be directed to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, c/o Pastor Ahonen, 613 Riverside Circle, Ladysmith WI 54848. Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith is assisting the family.
