1958-2025

Joseph P. “Joe” Milam, 67 of Jump River, passed away peacefully at his home under the care of Hope Hospice on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Joe was born on March 30, 1958 in Milwaukee, the son of the late Marvin and Carol (Hutchingson) Milam. Joe grew up in Janesville and entered the Navy at the age of 17 in 1975. He proudly served his country until May of 1979. During his time in the service, Joe worked on the flight deck of the U.S.S. Midway where he was a mechanic on airplanes. While on his tour of duty, he was given the prestigious title of Shellback by crossing the equator on his way to Australia.

After returning home from the Navy, Joe moved to Jump River, where he met Starr. Joe and Starr moved to Illinois in 1981, where he pursued his career as an electrician. On May 9, 1984, they married in Lombard, Ill. where they resided until 1993. Joe and Starr then moved back to Jump River to raise their family, where Joe continued his career as an electrician until he retired.

Joe was a man of many names: Jomeo, Jiggin’ Joe, Snappy, Mojito Joe and Papa Joe. He loved many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, UTVing, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. One of his hunting highlights was shooting his prized “double bucks”.

Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Starr (Lehrman) Milam; his children, Curt (Barb) Mudgett, Kevin Milam, and Joey (Nick) Reich; three grandchildren, Kyler Joal Milam, Sully Lee Reich, and Lilly Starr Reich; his brother, Jimmy Milam; and many nieces and nephews.
