Mary Helen Tigner was born on July 12,1933, in Watertown, S.D., to Richard M. and Alma C. (Baughman) Tigner. She was raised and received her education in Clark, S.D., graduating from Clark High School in 1951. Mary was united in marriage to Leonard Olson on June 3,1951, at Clark First Methodist Church in Clark, S.D. They moved to Greenwood and bought a farm northeast of town, where they made their home and raised four sons. In addition to farming, Mary and Leonard also provided transportation for the Clark County Aging office and the Social Services Department Meals-On-Wheels program. After Leonard's death on August 15, 2003, Mary continued to live on the farm for more than 73 years until her death.
She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, the Circle 8 Square Dance Club, served on the Town of Warner election board for many years, and Mary had a great sense of humor. Mary had many interests, but especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-greatgrandchildren, square dancing, snowmobiling, playing cards, sewing, crocheting hundreds of afghans, cooking, baking, gardening and visiting casinos.
She is survived by her three sons: Michael (Suzie) Olson of Greenwood, Terry (Sharon) Olson of Colby and Gary Olson of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; 27 greatgrandchildren; 6-3/4 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; one son, Steve, on April 21, 1973; her daughter-in-law, Diane Olson; and two sisters: Jean Ludwig and Luella Logan.
