Raymond W. “Ray” Carstensen, age 93, of Medford, town of Little Black, died Thursday, Nov. 3, 2022 at his home while under the care of Hope Hospice. He was born May 9, 1929 in Adams County to Walter H. and Inga (Tolstad) Carstensen.

On June 29, 1968, he married Agnes M. Stauner Opachan. Agnes preceded him in death on April 20, 2019.

Ray attended Medford area public schools. He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-1955. He then worked for Allis-Chalmers Mfg. from 1957-1961, then for Weathershield until his retirement in 1991.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, outdoors and oldtime music.

He is survived by two brothers, Baldwin (Sandra) of Milwaukee, Harold of Merrill; stepchildren, Barbara (Larry) of Medford, Patricia (Larry) Dazenski of Los Lunas, N.M., Mary Hjelm of Anoka, Minn., and Peter (Becky) Opachan of Summerfield, N.C.; brother-in-law, Manny Gilles of Medford; sisters-inlaw, Catherine Dassow and Margaret Stauner, both of Medford; many step grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

At Ray’s request, there will be no services. Interment of cremated remains will be at Medford Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
