Daniel R. Resch Daniel R. Resch

1989-2022

Daniel R. Resch, 32, of Ogema, formerly of Rhinelander, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022 as the result of a car accident. Dan’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. 3 p.m. at Camp 28. The Camp restaurant and bar will be closed all day on Sunday for the service. He was born Dec. 5, 1989 in Rhinelander to Beverly Resch and Brian Smith. He graduated from Rhinelander High School, then continued his education at Nicolet College, graduating with a degree in Culinary Arts.

Daniel earned an internship at The Ritz in London, where he became even more proficient as a chef. Returning to Rhinelander, he worked in various restaurants, becoming well known for his skill.

He then met the love of his life, Jonathan Lanius, and knew they were meant to be. The two were married on Dec. 19, 2020. Soon, great life partners became great business partners with the opportunity to live their dream and purchase a restaurant of their own in Jonathan’s hometown of Rib Lake. They purchased Camp 28 Restaurant & Motel in April of 2021, and currently own and operate the successful business.

In addition to cooking, Dan enjoyed downhill skiing, shopping, and telling jokes (especially unfunny, mundane dad jokes that he would hear on TikTok). He was also a prankster, often playing tricks on people or scaring them in some way. Dan loved his dog Cujo and he loved his dear husband, and his many, many friends. He will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his husband, Jonathan Resch; father, Brian (Ollie) Smith; grandmother, Beverly Frasier; Jonathan’s parents, Marjorie Lanius, Jon (Kim) Lanius, and Caralee Kreps; Jonathan’s siblings, Ashlyn (Joshua) Nowobielski, Justin (Clarice Padilla) Lanius, Kerstyn (Heath Janke) Lanius, and Lucina Lanius; and his dog, Cujo.

He is further survived by his aunts, Roberta (Smith) Rench (Eric Rench), Rebecca (Smith) Miller (Charles Miller), Barbara (Smith) Bardi; and numerous other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly; and his dog, Noodle.

In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome in memory of Dan toward service expenses.

Hemer-Pickerign Funeral & Cremation Services of Medford and Rib Lake is serving the family. Online condolences can be left at www. hemerfuneralservice.com.
