David C. Johnson David C. Johnson

1945-2022

David C. Johnson, 77, passed away peacefully at his home Oct. 12, 2022 with his caring sister Barbara Metz and good friend Don Kellner by his side. He was born on June 29, 1945, was a lifelong Medford resident and attended Medford Area schools. A private family burial will be held at a later date. David was always up for a Pokka dance with his mom and dad or a Wisconsin sporting event. He loved taking Brewer bus trips, with Jim and Todd Metz, to the stadium, listening to them on the radio or watching the Badgers and Packers. He attended many local dirt track races in his younger years as brother Don (car number Racing 4u) built and raced his own stock car. He enjoyed watching from the stands as the Brost boys won features in cars nephew Brian Metz helped work on.

Jim bought a pair of 1972 Chapparal snowmobiles for them to take out in the winter after a hard summer of working on the road delivering Tombstone Pizzas. If you wanted to reach David in the truck, his CB radio handle was, ‘Catus’. David was fond of CB radios and rebuilding tube style TVs with his dad, Kearney, while working at Pup TV. His hobbies included model airplanes with Jerry, shooting pool with Bonnie and going to Lake Esadore with LaVerne.

David enjoyed family gatherings around the holidays and summer days at the Jensen cabin on the lake. Being forever polite, he always left the host (mostly Suzy and Scott) with a sincere and genuine ‘Thank You’. One of the people that welcomed David’s company and with whom he built a great relationship with was caregiver Wanda Erickson. They both very much looked forward to spending their time together.

As much as David enjoyed his sports and family time, his true blessing was his journey through life with his sister Barbara. She always prioritized David’s health, wellbeing and enjoyment far above her own. After selflessly and successfully raising three children, she cared for her ‘Buddy’ David after her retirement and with her his loss will be most deeply felt.

David is survived by his sisters LaVerne Johnson, Barbara Metz and Bonnie Wagner and brother Jerry Johnson. Nieces and Nephews Tom Johnson, Carol LeClaire, Wayne Johnson, Darla Weber, Laura Lang, Chris, Scott and Tim Geiger, Suzy Jensen and Todd Metz.

David was preceded in death by parents KearneyJohnsonandSophieDums, brothersDonand Raymond Johnson and nephew Brian Metz.
