Dorothy Landwehr Dorothy Landwehr

Dorothy Anna Hilda (Grieser) Landwehr, 95, slipped quietly into eternal life on October 1, 2022.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. at Ebenezer UCC, Stratford. The family will receive visitors from 9 a.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pastor Patti Steevens will preside, and Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements. The honor of pallbearer has been given to Dorothy’s grandsons.

Dorothy was born February 26, 1927, at home in the Town of Hamburg, Marathon County. While quite young, her family moved to a farm in the March Rapids area near Stratford, where she attended the nearby school and the Lutheran church. While still a teenager she and her older sister moved to the Milwaukee area and worked as live-in housekeepers. Later, she moved in with her aunt and uncle in Wausau and was employed tying fishing flies.

Dorothy met her husband and lifelong waltz partner, Kenneth Landwehr, at a local dance, and they married October 8, 1949. They shared most of their life together on the family dairy farm east of Stratford, where she kept house, milked cows, cultivated a huge garden, canned produce and meat, and a hundred other farm chores. Dorothy was a talented seamstress, making most of the clothes for the five children they were blessed with. She was also a longtime member of Ebenezer UCC and an active member of the Evening Circle and Ladies’ Aid. For “pin” money she worked several years for the local ginseng farms.

The pair built and moved into their dream home in the woods on the river in 1989 when their son took over the family farm. Ken and Dorothy travelled extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, and celebrated fiftyfive years of marriage before Ken’s passing in 2004. Dorothy then moved to the Donald Sykes apartments in Stratford where she resided for seventeen years, until her final hospitalization and move to the House of the Dove in April.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Michael (Janice) Landwehr, Linda (Keith) Richards, Betty (Michael) Olson, Jenny (Marty) Reiff, all of Stratford, and Dennis (Julie) Landwehr of Escanaba, Mich.; ten grandchildren: Anne (Josh) Dick, Lora (Chris) Ledden, Nicholas Landwehr, Lucas (Katrina Croft) Richards, Sarah Richards, Heidi Olson, Lukas Oswald, Emma Landwehr, Hunter Reiff and Sam Reiff.; eleven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Annabelle, Michael and Michaela Dick, Keenen, Jayden and Tori Landwehr, Easton Ledden, Jourdyn and Landon Landwehr and Aspen Richards; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers: Ervin, Hilbert, Elmer, Marvin and Milton Grieser, and sister, Gladys Lloyd; and all her brothers and sisters-in-law.

The family extends their appreciation to the caring and compassionate staff at The House of the Dove; and a special thank you to Dorothy’s caregiver and friend, Dawn DeYoung.
