1932-2022

Paul “Boompa” Richard Noble Jr., 90, of Medford, passed away on June 22, 2022, at Wausau Aspirus Palliative Care Unit.

Visitation will take place on July 9 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford beginning at 9:30 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., with Father Patrick McConnell officiating. The burial will take place at Northwoods National Cemetery in Harshaw, Wis.

Paul was born April 1, 1932, to Paul Sr. and Violetta (Young) Noble in Youngtown, Ohio. Paul grew up on a farm and attended grade school in North Jackson, Ohio. He moved to Denver, Colo. where he attended high school at Denver West and went on to graduate from radiology school in Denver. He began his X-ray career driving the first mobile radiology van through the Colorado mountains. He entered the Navy in 1952 and served as a corpsman during the Korean War. During his time in the Navy, he married Charlotte Ann Kaneiss on Oct. 14, 1954, in Waukegan, Ill. After being honorably discharged he continued working in the healthcare field. He served as a Milwaukee County ambulance driver, orderly, and x-ray technician at St. Camillus nursing home. He worked as an EMT at Columbia Hospital in Milwaukee. He was a dispatcher for the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department. He retired after 25 years of service to Milwaukee County.

After retirement, Paul and Charlotte moved to Medford. Paul held several trucking positions for the Athens Co-op. His greatest enjoyment, however, was driving for Krug’s bus service. He made every day an adventure and cared for the kids as if they were his own. He retired a second time at the age of 84.

Paul enjoyed summer vacations at Crooked Lake in Wis. and fishing trips to Canada with his family. He was a fan of NASCAR, Brewers baseball, Green Bay Packer football, and much to his family’s dismay, was a lifelong fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. He loved reading and watching westerns, landscaping and gardening, and throwing horseshoes with his friend Howie. Paul enjoyed growing vegetables to share with his friends and family. Attending grand and great-grandchildren’s school and sporting events were cherished activities. He loved family gatherings, especially family barbeques. Paul was also a member of VFW Post 0519 in Stetsonville.

Paul is survived by his sister, Darlene White; children, Ronald Gotzler (Cathy), Michele Armbrust, and Patricia Noble; son-in-law, Clark Peterson; grandchildren, Carolyn Jo O’Connell, Joseph Gotzler (Ashley), and Steven Gotzler (Maggie), Rachel Dixon (Luke), Luke Armbrust (Cathie), and Anna Strnad (Andrew), Joshua Peterson (Mariah), Elizabeth Riege (Bryce), Micah Peterson, and Isaac Peterson; great-grandchildren, Madeline O’ Connell, Natalyn, William, and Beatrice Dixon, Oscar and Francis Armbrust, Elaine and Quinn Strnad. Paul is further survived by many nieces; nephews; and friends. The family also likes to thank Howie Schilling for being Paul’s right-hand man and support person.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; his parents; siblings, Jack Noble and Bonnie Ross; daughter, Susan Peterson; son-in-law, Jeff Armbrust; and close family friend, Bernadette Pier.
