Harvey B. Halverson, 83, of Medford, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019 at The Homeplace of Dorchester, surrounded by family, under the care of Hope Hospice. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Holway with Pastor Amy Heinz officiating. Burial followed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation took place at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 4-7 p.m. and continued at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

Harvey was born on May 17, 1936 to Morris and Ruth (Smital) Halverson in the township of Holway. He graduated from Medford High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He married Geraldine “Gerry” R. Paul on Aug. 15, 1959 and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2018. Harvey worked for Schmidt’s Clothing and Paul Brothers Landscaping in Portland, Ore. He farmed with his brother Richard on the family farm. He then went to work for Hurd Millwork. In retirement he worked maintenance for the Centennial Apartments in Medford. In his spare time he enjoyed yard work, traveling, helping neighbors, volunteering at church, listening to polka music, hunting, fishing, spending time with family and taking care of Gerry. He had a great sense of humor and loved making everyone around him laugh. He was a very active member of the church and its cemetery association.

Harvey is survived by his children, Julie (Mark) Hoffman of Mukwonago, Donna (Vince) Hawley of Scottsdale, Ariz., David (Leslie) Halverson and Paula (Tim) Stroinski, all of Medford and Kristin (Dean) Remer of Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren, Jessica, Alex, Mariah, Maya and Noah; great-grandchild, Josslyn; and siblings, Richard of Medford and Carol (Dave) Bovee of Weston, Fla. He is further survived by many other family and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his sister, Marjean.

Memorial donations in Harvey’s name may be given to either Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church or Hope Hospice.
