Norman “Norm” Alfred Hatlestad
Norman “Norm” Alfred Hatlestad passed away Dec. 3, 2019, at Valley Hospital in Harlingen, Texas.
Norm was born Dec. 20, 1941, to Alfred and Alma Hatlestad.
He was raised on the family farm in the Town of Holway, and graduated from Medford High School.
Norm and his high school sweetheart, Nancy Frischman, were married July 1, 1961, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford. They had 58 wonderful years of devoted love and marriage together.
He was a member of the National Guard and served one year of active duty with the 32nd Red Arrows Division, during the Berlin crisis from 1961-62. Norm and Nancy lived in Tacoma, Wash., at that time.
On their return to Medford, Norm worked for his fatherin- law, Martin Frischman, at Frischman Motors. Then, in 1969, they opened Big A Auto Parts, which became Napa, and spent approximately 40 years in auto parts.
After retiring in 2002, he and Nancy moved to their home on Lake Holcombe, and also wintered in Laguna Vista, Texas, for 15 years.
Norm was a very successful businessman, owning Big A and Napa Auto Parts, Burger Chef, First Impressions Boutique and the River House Inn.
Some of his community involvement and social activities, included being a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the local school board, Advisory Council for Big A Auto, 30 years as a Mid Wisconsin Bank Board member and vice president of Mid Wisconsin Financial Services, past president of the Medford Curling Club, charter member and past president of the Medford Jaycees, lifetime member of the Stetsonville Legion, lifetime member of the NRA, golf member at Black River, Tee Hi, Twin Oaks, Uncle Salty’s and South Padre Island golf clubs.
He was an avid Wisconsin, Montana, and Canadian hunter and fisherman, and he loved the Packers, Badgers and Brewers.
Norm loved his family very much. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and had many, many friends all over the U.S. and in Canada.
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife – Nancy; sons – Shane (wife Liza Daleiden), Medford, Chad (wife Amie Velasquez), Englewood, Colo.; grandsons – Eric (fiancé Jordan Kuglitsch), Denver, Colo., and Max, Madison; brothers – James (wife Dee) and David (wife Charlotte); sisters – Barbara Dettmering (husband Roger Kramer), Kathryn (husband James Larsen) and Lois (husband Dallas Wuethrich); brother-in-law – Dr. Ronald Frischman (wife Judy); and many nephews; nieces; and great-nephews and nieces.
He has now joined his parents –Alfred andAlma Hatlestad; father and mother-in-law – Martin and Blanche Frischman; sister-in-law – Barbara Frischman; and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the family, to be given to the Forest Run Foundation for Assistance and research against Glioblastoma Brain Tumors, and the Laguna Vista, Texas EMTs.
Our family thanks everyone for your support, love, condolences, flowers, food and expressions of sympathy.
The family invites you to Norm’s celebration of life from 1-4 p.m., Saturday, June 20, at Uncle Salty’s Golf and Camp Pavillion (formerly Twin Oaks Golf Course), 27356 270th Ave., Holcombe. A eulogy and memories will be shared at 2:30 p.m.
The facility has lots of open space for visiting. Because of the unknowns of June’s social distancing requirements, if we postpone, we will notify the Star News and Courier Sentinel, and post updates on Facebook.
