A trio of children enjoy a sweet treat while checking out a boat used by local DNR conservation wardens during the National Night Out event held on August 4 at the Taylor County Fairgrounds in Medford. The event brought together numerous county agencies, law enforcement at the local, county and state level, along with air emergency medical services and firefighters to interact with youth and families in the community. There was face painting and Nestlé served up Tombstone Pizza for those attending. Among the activities, the Medford Kiwanis Club held a bike rodeo event and with the support of Aspirus gave the young participants helmets. See page 20 for additional pictures from the event. Ice Age Days rolls into Rib Lake this weekend with a full schedule of music, fun and games planned from August 7 to 9. The event takes place in downtown Rib Lake with Wenzel’s Carnival Rides running all three days. Randy Jones has been performing as an Elvis Presley tribute artist since 1999. He’s been battling cancer for the last three years, but whether it’s his final curtain call or the beginning of a brand-new tour, he isn’t saying adios just yet. Congressional candidate Michael Alfonso visited a dairy farm near Thorp on Monday, making a last-minute pitch to Republican voters in the area ahead of the Aug. 11 primary.
