LeRoy “Spike” R. Spieles 1938-2026
LeRoy “Spike” R. Spieles, 87, of Westboro, passed Feb. 27, 2026 under the care of Hope Hospice, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date. LeRoy was born to Roy and June (Budnick) on Dec. 31, 1938 in Westboro. In 1958, after graduating and marrying, they moved to Chicago, Ill. where he apprenticed as a tool and die maker making that his career for the next 40 years.
After retirement they traveled the country in an RV and wintered in Arizona eventually returning to his lifelong home in Westboro.
In retirement he continued to enjoy fishing and feeding all the critters found in his backyard. He always had a special relationship with them as well as his cats who were a part of the family.
He was active with the Jump River Lions and Community Center participating any way he could.
Spike always took the road less traveled and has now taken HIS road home.
Survived by his wife, Mary (Hink) of 67 years; daughters, Lori Merges (Rick Bueter), and Lana Conley (Larry Cassani); known as “Poppy” by his grandchildren, Michelle Lucherini, Matthew Conley, Nicole Pritchard (Kyle); great-granddaughters, Olivia and Hollie Lucherini; and many special nieces and nephews.
Spike grew up loving hunting, fishing, and wood working. He forged lifelong friendships and was known for his story telling, true or not.
Preceded in death by parents, Roy and June Spieles; sister, Katherine Geckler; and grandson, Andrew Conley in infancy.
