Dr. Roxanna “Penny” Jay Barone
Dr. Roxanna “Penny” Jay Barone, age 60, passed away on Jan. 12, 2026. She was born Feb. 1, 1965, the daughter of Roger Rein and Joanne “Cookie” Roiger. Roxy was a hardworking, ambitious woman with an unwavering passion for learning that shaped every chapter of her life. She began her professional journey as a legal secretary after earning her associate’s degree (Blackhawk Technical College). Determined to build a bright future for herself and her family, she pursued her bachelor’s degree (Cardinal Stritch University). Her dedication to growth never slowed; she went on to earn both her master’s degree (Cardinal Stritch University) and doctorate degree (University of Arizona), an extraordinary accomplishment made even more remarkable as a single mother of four.
Roxy’s life reflected her intelligence, perseverance, and deep desire to serve others. She thrived as an educator

working with the Janesville School District. She worked in various service-oriented roles throughout her life- each reflecting her intelligence, dedication, and desire to help others.
A long-time resident of Janesville, Roxy was known for her fun-loving spirit, kind heart, and contagious smile. She embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. Roxy loved music, animals, and gardening and she certainly never missed a chance to party. Roxy truly knew how to live - and she made everyone around her feel welcome, valued, and loved. Roxy cherished her family and friends and most of all she was deeply loved.
Roxy is survived by her children, Justin (Megan) Barone, Jessica (Sinisa) Brcinovic, Jaynelle (Kyle) LeCaptain, and Jaxton (Kimberly Jones) Barone; along with six grandchildren; mother and step-father, Joanne “Cookie” and Joseph “Butch” Roiger; siblings, Jody Reilly/Roiger, and George Rein; and step-siblings, Kathy (Larry) Kraemer, Karen Roiger, and Joe Roiger.
