Dale “Moose” Schmidt Dale “Moose” Schmidt

Dale “Moose” M. Schmidt, 79, Loyal, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Waseca, Minn. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Loyal. Rev. Emmanual Famiyeh will officiate, and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers will be Aaron Rueth, Ben Schmidt, Denver Daniel, Roman Mischka, Jackson Mueller, and Chad Kollmansberger. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.

Dale Michael Schmidt was born on Dec. 26, 1946, in Marshfield, the son of Allie G. and Margaret (Schwellenbach) Schmidt. He grew up on the family farm, which he eventually took over in 1976. This is where his love of animals began and grew. Dale was a proud graduate of Loyal High School Class of 1965. He was united in marriage to Charlene A. (Hannum) Mischka on July 11, 1987. Dale was a devoted father to Charlene’s children, Renee and Rodney, whom he raised as his own and loved unconditionally. He was a proud grandfather to Jackson, Denver, Mariah Jo, Tatum, and Roman. He found great joy in watching his children and grandchildren play sports, always cheering them on with pride.

As a dairy farmer in Loyal, Dale had a true passion for cows and for working the land. He was a loyal supporter of Case International Harvester tractors, and proudly never owned a John Deere. Just as steadfastly, he drove Ford vehicles his entire life — never a Chevy or a Dodge. Dale had an extraordinary knowledge of Clark County. He could tell you who owned a piece of land and all the history that came with it, remembering details that few others could.

He was a devoted Catholic, regularly attending mass and living out his faith. In his free time, Dale enjoyed watching sports, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers.

A loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather, Dale will be remembered for his love of family, sports, his animals, and farming.

Dale is survived by his children: Renee (Troy) Daniel of Waseca, Minn; and Rodney (Tina) Mischka of Prior Lake, Minn.; his grandchildren: Jackson (Megan) Mueller, Denver Daniel, Mariah Jo Daniel (David Monroe), and Tatum and Roman Mischka; his brothers: Larry (Betty) Schmidt, Smyrna, Tenn., and James (Kathy) Schmidt, Surprise, Ariz.; three brothers-in-law: Gene Fischer of Milwaukee, Dick Hannum of Marshfield, and Bob (Jean) Hannum of Spencer; three sisters-in-law: Sheila Dietel of Marshfield, Lori (Dennis) Budtke of Stratford, and Chris Hannum of Marshfield; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene; his brother, Harry; his sisters: Lucille Schmidt (Ted Schlinsog) and Irene Fischer; his brothers-in-law: Pete Dietel and Larry Hannum; and his sister-in-law, Rosemary Schmidt.
