Marlene Bejegerdes

1932-2025

Marlene Benjegerdes, age 93, passed away on Sept. 26, 2025 at her daughter’s home, under Janine’s care with support of Hope Hospice.

Marlene Claire was born on Aug. 8, 1932 to Levi Lemli (L.L.) and Florence (Graves) Sutton in Mason City, Iowa. She attended school in Plymouth, Iowa and graduated in 1950.

Marlene was united in marriage to Orville “Kent” Benjegerdes on Dec. 20, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Plymouth, Iowa. Together they farmed in Danville Co., Iowa until moving to Wisconsin in 1965, where they farmed in the town of Hull until retiring. They then bought a house on County N overlooking the dairy farm they had worked for many years. After 68 joyful years of marriage, Kent passed away Sept. 4, 2020.

Marlene was an active member of the Colby United Methodist Church. Her passion was being a farm wife and mother who held many roles: baling hay and feeding calves to feeding the hungry men during field work time. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness and strength that will forever be cherished.

Marlene enjoyed gardening, baking and canning her garden surplus. She collected depression glass and other antiques. Rides in the country on Sunday afternoons to observe nature were some of her favorites.

Marlene is survived by her two children, Joel (Karen) Benjegerdes, of Gatesville, Texas and Janine Johnson, of Owen; five grandchildren, Aimee (Travis) Haakenson, of Medford, Tyler (Ailea) Johnson, of Batesville, Alaska, Julie (Brian) Benjegerdes-Collins, of Gatesville, Texas, Katie (Garrett) Benjegerdes-Homan, of Belton, Texas and Megan (Wesley) Benjegerdes-Wiegreffe, of Fort Worth, Texas. She is further survived by seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; mother- in-law; two sisters; one great-grandson; and sonin- law.

Per Marlene’s request there will be no formal service. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.
