Legion Auxiliary

President Jenese Karlen called the Sept. 11 meeting of American Legion Auxiliary Alois Dreikosen Unit 469 to order with 21 members present. Two more joined later.

Opening meeting protocol was followed. Opening prayer, minutes of the August meeting, and the treasurer’s report were given.

Outstanding bills were presented for parade swag. Tips from the face painting were collected.

Committee reports

Membership: A total of 32 members have renewed for 2026. Adult membership is $34 for the year. Youth memberships are $5.25. Membership dues can be paid online (legion- aux.org), by phone (1-317-569-4570), or in person at a meeting.

Juniors: Juniors and any adult members interested in card making were invited to gather at the village hall on Sunday, Sept. 21, from 11 to 5. Participants were welcome to come and go as needed.

Juniors and any adult members interested will again be gathering on Sunday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., to make goodie bags for veterans to be distributed on Veterans Day. Materials for the bags will cost under $250. A motion was made by Edee Ruplinger and seconded by Haley Cramer to pay for the items for the bags. Motion carried.

A thank-you note was read.

Old /New business

On Oct. 30, the ALA unit has an opportunity to serve at the Jubilee House, which provides a meal once a week to homeless individuals (or individuals who have to choose between paying rent and buying food), including veterans.

A donation was made to The Highground Veterans Memorial Park in Neilsville.

Closing prayer was given. Members then proceeded to Main Street to watch the Silent Walk up the hill for 9-11.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 10, at the village hall at 6:30 p.m.

Family Story Times

Bring your entire family to Family Story Time at the Stratford Branch Library. Children of all ages and parents/guardians are welcome to this 30-minute program. Enjoy learning with your children through stories, songs and other literature-based activities. The next Family Story Times will be held Wednesdays, Oct. 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Call 715-687-4420 for more information.

Celebrate Coach Schmidt

The Stratford Boys Hoops Club invites the community to celebrate the basketball coaching career of Curt Schmidt on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Stratford Heritage Barn. Anyone who is interested is invited to stop by throughout the evening and share stories and memories about Coach Schmidt. Light snacks and beverages will be provided, and a cash bar will be available.

Stratford Book Club

Stratford Book Club will discuss “A Calamity of Souls” by David Baldacci on-Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. and again on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the Stratford Branch Library. A duo of black and white lawyers take on a racially-charged murder case in the tumultuous year of 1968. Pancake feast

St. Andrew’s Catholic Church will hold its 33rd Annual Parish Pancake Feast, Bake Sale and Raffles on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Neises Hall, 122726 CTH R, Rozelville. The all-you-can-eat breakfast will include potato and buttermilk pancakes, sausages, applesauce, cheese, desserts, milk, coffee and juice. Preschool children eat for free. Matching funds will be provided by Catholic Financial Life WI-37.
