Pasture walk

The Cloverbelt Grazing Community will host a sheep grazing pasture walk on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Half Moon Hill, 132851 CTH A, Athens. Gerrid and Sadie Franke are in their 16th year of grazing sheep. They graze 25 ewes with lambs on 21 acres of pasture. After starting their farm completely from scratch, they have a sheep operation that works for them, although they still get surprises to learn from every year. They graze long, leaving a lot of matter on the field, which has its own challenges. Join the walk to hear about the lessons they’ve learned. Topics will include pasture management, fencing, water systems for sheep, and flock management. This is a free event; all are welcome (kids too). Cookies and refreshments will be provided.
