August 5,1965 - School was to begin at the Loyal School District on Aug. 30.

- The Most Reverend Frederick W. Freldng, D.D., Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of La Crosse, was to offer a Mass and harvest blessing at the monastery of the Brothers of St. Pius X near Colby on Aug. 15. There was to be a procession of fruits, vegetables, and bricks of cheese made by local cheesemakers for blessing during the Mass.

- Two pounds of grapes was 25 cents.

Village of Loyal voted 204-33 in favor of issuing $23,000 worth of bonds to improve Main Street. The result of the vote “proves that Loyal wants a modern up-todate concrete job on Main Street and wants it now.”

- Federal funds for the removal of diseased animals from dairy herds were to only be available until Dec. 31,1935. Local veterinarians were urging farmers to take immediate advantage of the funding to rid their herds from sick animals and avoid “the economic hazards caused by Bang’s Disease.”

- The oiling of Highway 73 from Withee to Neillsville had been completed by J. Senn of Osseo. It had cost $10,000 to complete. The Popple River bridge on Highway 73 north of Greenwood was also being painted at a cost of $350.

- Due to the delays in the sale of $132,000 in county bonds for paving Highway 98, it was doubtful that more than 3 miles of paving would be completed this year.
