Lake Holcome Town Board - Playground equipment is in and ready to go

Kids can now play in comfort at the Wayside Park in Holcombe, thanks to $20,000 from the Lake Holcombe Improvement Association (LHIA) and $5,000 from the Lake Holcombe Lions Club. The two organizations joined together, in cooperation with the Town of Lake Holcombe, to install new playground equipment, from a company in Thorp.
Although the town had to remove five or six trees, they do want to replace them, while the LHIA is rumored to be working on obtaining a grant for a kayak dock onto Pine Lake.
“The town would definitely help them with that,” said town chairman Brian Guthman, at the regular board meeting July 17.
A $553.87 donation was also received from the Class of 2025, to go toward the Wayside Park improvements.
“That was very nice,” said Guthman. Guthman promised to research getting a utility ordinance in place, for when work is done that will run under the town roadways. Before doing anything, a company or property owner will need to bring plans before the town board.
They may also require driveway permits, in addition to the county fee already in place.
“We got to protect ourselves,” said Guthman. It was also reported that the town and Estella will join together, to repave 240th Avenue next year, with both paying for 4/10 of a mile, up to State Hwy. 27. The state owns a piece of the road going west, but do not upkeep it, which is causing major potholes.
Guthman also reported that the satellite fire station is progressing, as multiple bids were opened for work on the structure. He also mentioned that the town received a county recycling grant, in the amount of $1,700, to help offset costs.
“We get about the same every year,” said Guthman. The board also reluctantly accepted the resignation of clerk Tracey Larson, who also serves as the clerk of the Sanitary Board. Larson hated to step down, but has a challenging and enjoying full-time job, that needs all of her attention.
Because she served in the two capacities, it was agreed that any candidate who steps up to fill the positions, will carry on in the same capacity.
“We very much appreciate what you’ve done, Tracey,” said Guthman. “I don’t know what we’re going to do to replace you.”
