POST 147 LEGION SOFTBALL - Medford routs Everest 10-0; will host regional tourney next week

Led by five runs batted in and one-hit pitching from Rylee Hraby, Medford’s American Legion Post 147 Senior softball team improved to 9-1 on Tuesday with a 10-0 win at D.C. Everest.

Post 147 outhit the home team 13-1 and scored in every inning but two to secure the win. Addison Brahmer and Hraby had three hits apiece, while Finley Arndt, Laney Hraby and Ruthie Steinman had two hits each. Arndt drove in three runs.

In the circle, Rylee Hraby was dominant, striking out 13 batters while walking only one and hitting two. The lone hit D.C. Everest got was a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh.

Steinman drew a bases-loaded walk to get Medford on the board in the top of the second. Brahmer doubled, Arndt tripled and Rylee Hraby singled to make it 3-0 in the third. Brahmer started a two-out rally in the third with a base hit, Arndt walked and both scored on Rylee Hraby’s double to push the lead to 5-0.

Brahmer again sparked a rally with a leadoff single in the sixth. Arndt reached on an error and both scored on Rylee Hraby’s second straight double. Laney Hraby later drove in her sister with a sacrifice fly to make it 8-0.

Post 147 finished the scoring in the seventh. Singles by Steinman and Tori Nicks set up a two-run, two-out single by Arndt.

D.C. Everest won the Junior Legion game 12-4. Home games against Crandon on Wednesday were rained out.

Wisconsin American Legion postseason play starts on Tuesday and Wednesday when Medford hosts a threeteam, double-elimination Division 1 regional tournament at the Jaycee diamond.

Merrill hosts the state tournament Aug. 1-3 and is guaranteed a spot in that, which will ultimately leave Medford and Marshfield battling for another state berth.
