Testimonial Dinner For Hodgis
A testimonial dinner will be given in honor of Michael Hodgis, for many years the band director at the Marathon public school. While in Marathon, Mr. Hodgis’ band pupils compiled a very enviable record for him. The dinner will be held at the Rib River Ballroom and admission is $3.50 per person.
Fast Pitch Tourney
This past weekend, the weather was not the only thing that was hot. There were several hot games in the Stratford fast-ball tournament before Eddies Bar of Hamburg was declared the winner in the third annual tournament.
Marathon Qualifies for Flood Insurance
Seventh District Congressman Dave Obey announced that the Village of Marathon City has qualified for subsidized national flood insurance. As of June 24, 1975 all structures used for residential, business, religious, or agricultural purposes are eligible for flood insurance coverage. STRAFORD JOURNAL

St. Joseph’s Church celebrates 100 years
This weekend members of the community and St. Joseph’s Parish, Stratford, will be celebrating the centennial celebration of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The two day events will include music, a trash and treasure sale, a ball tournament, bingo, horse and wagon rides, and food and refreshments. Stratford’s own Bishop Raymond Burke of the La Crosse Diocese will conduct a 10:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday.
Stratford natives celebrate
Sisters Mae and Alice Kaiser, both natives of Stratford, were among 17 Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration who celebrated the 25th and 50th anniversaries of their religious profession in La Crosse.

Edgar summer school
Enrollments at the Edgar Public Schools summer school program are high again this year with 618 students enrolled in 18 classes from grades 1-12. School superintendent, John Hirvela, said that this is the eighth year that Edgar has conducted a summer school program.
Bank of Athens wins slo-pitch tournament
The Bank of Athens captured the championship trophy in the second annual Athens Slo-Pitch tournament. The winning team members included Karen Giese, Bev Boris, Doreen Weise, Sue Ewan, Nila Koeller, Sandy Koeller, Eugene Weise, Butch Ewan, Frank Koeller, Arnie Weise, Butch Boris and Carlon Pepke.
Gigantic Painting
The windows of Edgar Implement were painted to observe June Dairy Month and call attention to the recent Edgar homecoming celebration. The artist was Jeff Richardson, Route 1, Athens.

Miltrim Farms expansion is underway
Rural Athens is the site of Marathon County’s next mega-dairy. Miltrim Farms, Inc. is near completion of the first phase of what will be an eventual 1,200 cow dairy that will employ an anticipated 16-18 employees. The new dairy will be in operation sometime in August.
Athens soccer
This summer there has been soccer action at the soccer field along CTH M. This year’s soccer league has nine peewee teams, seven junior and five senior teams. The league is in its third year.
Marathon reunion
The Marathon High School classes of 1956-59 held a high school reunion at the Rib River Ballroom, Marathon. The reunion featured a meal, gifts and professional Elvis impersonator Gary Hill.
