CVGA SENIOR GOLF
With an even-par 71, Dave Vaara of Medford won his second Chippewa Valley Golf Association senior tournament of the season Sunday, June 8 at Mill Run Golf Course in Eau Claire.
Vaara’s 71 gave him a 4-stroke margin on the day’s final leaderboard over three golfers, Dave Staehling, Dean Babbitt and John Yule. There were 15 golfers in the Open Division (50 and up) playing that day.
On May 10, Vaara also played his way to the top of the leaderboard at the Bloomer Golf Course. He and Yule shared the top spot that day with scores of 74 on the par-71 course. They were one shot ahead of three golfers, Bob Zimmerman, Mark Asplund and Steve Neumann.
In that round, Vaara also got a hole in the skins competition with his birdie on the par-4 first hole.
The wins give Vaara 12 points in the CVGA’s annual Scheel’s Cup individual standings for the Seniors’ Open Division, which Yule currently leads. Vaara is in third place.
Vaara also played in the circuit’s June 1 event at Rolling Oaks Golf Course in Barron. He tied Dave Schlageter for 11th place with a 9-over-par 80. Yule won that event with a score of 71.
The 2025 CVGA schedule has 15 weekend tournaments scheduled leading up to its Tournament of Champions Sept. 20.
