MEDFORD POST 147 BASEBALL - Senior Legion team sweeps Rib Lake in Monday doubleheader

Tanner Hraby homered in both games and pitchers Jackson Blomberg and Carson Carbaugh fell one swing shy of both pitching shutouts for Medford’s American Legion Post 147 19U Senior baseball team in a Monday doubleheader sweep of Rib Lake.
Played in Whittlesey, Medford took the five-inning contests 9-0 and 8-2 to go to 3-1 for the summer season.
Rib Lake was 3-0 coming into Monday’s twinbill but possibly faced the most potent offense it will see in its summer season, which is geared toward improving its 2026 high school team.
Blomberg, a 2024 Rib Lake graduate, threw a no-hitter for Medford in game one, striking out six and walking two. The only other Rib Lake runner to reach was Ty Niemi on a third-inning throwing error.
Offensively, Post 147’s collection of high school graduates from this year and last year had no such trouble banging out 10 hits. The first of those was an RBI double in the bottom of the first by Parker Lissner, driving in Hraby who had been hit by a Talon Scheithauer pitch to start the frame.
Blake Bargender and Charlie Gierl singled with one out in the second and, after a fielder’s choice hit by Sam Hierlmeier forced Gierl, Hraby launched a three-run homer to left-center to make it 4-0.
A five-run third finished off the scoring. Evan Wilkins hit a one-out double, stole third and scored on a throwing error. Bargender then doubled and singles by Gierl and Hierlmeier drove Bargender in. Hraby’s infield hit loaded the bases. Two runs scored on an error on a ball hit by Lissner and Payton Schreiber singled in the final run.
Talon Scheithauer pitched the first 2.2 innings for Rib Lake, while Slade Scheithauer got the last four outs, allowing one hit.
Hraby, Bargender and Gierl had two hits apiece for Post 147.
Post 147 started game two with threerun rallies in both the first and second innings to build a quick 6-0 lead and coasted from there. Carbaugh threw all five innings, allowing four hits, while striking out two, walking three and hitting one. Ethan Cook had two of Rib Lake’s four hits. That included a two-run double that he sliced to the rightfield corner in the fourth. Slade Scheithauer walked and Seth Borchardt was hit by a pitch ahead of Cook’s double, which ended with him getting caught in a rundown trying to stretch it to a triple.
Medford got run-scoring groundouts from Schreiber and Wilkins and an RBI double from Blomberg in the first. Hraby hit a two-out solo homer in the second. It was followed by a Lissner single, a misplayed fly ball hit by Schreiber and a walk to Blomberg that loaded the bases for Carbaugh. He doubled to drive in two.
Medford added an unearned run in the third and Gierl’s RBI single in the fourth.
Slade Scheithauer pitched the first two innings for Rib Lake. Borchardt allowed a hit, a walk and the unearned run in the third. Niemi allowed a run and two hits in the fourth. Brevin Brahmer and Lucas Cook had hits for Rib Lake in the fifth.
Lissner was three for three and
