Defense is at last coming together for the Knights

By Ginna Young

The Cornell-Lake Holcombe baseball program was on the road, May 1, at Birchwood-Winter, for an East Lakeland Conference match-up. The bout proved to be hard-fought and although the Knights didn’t come away with the win, things were very encouraging for the visitors.

Senior Preston Fredrickson had his best start of the season, allowing only 2 runs through four innings.

“Defense was the most solid that we’ve seen so far,” said coach Phylicia Smith.

However, a couple errors allowed Birchwood to score three unearned runs and two earned.

“Cornell was able to get bats going, but only got one run from hits,” said Smith. “Our other run was scored by Landon Larson, on a past ball.”
