Hornets gaining momentum each time they claim victory
By Ginna Young
With a couple more wins under Cadott’s belt, the baseball program is ready to face whatever comes their way next.
April 25 vs. Whitehall non-conference (W 16-6)
The Hornets were on the road, to face off with the Norsemen, in what would be a no-contest win for Cadott. They got on the board first, with four runs, while Whitehall added two in the first inning. From then on, it was mostly Cadott.
Cadott scored two more runs in the second inning, as well as four in the third. Whitehall went on to add four more runs, but that would be it, as the Hornets came up with another six runs, to take a 16-6 victory.
“All around good game played,” said coach Brandon Geist.
Junior Aiden Rykal was at the helm for Cadott, going three innings, while allowing 7 hits, 6 runs, 5 walks and striking out 3. Freshman Jake Weeks then took a turn for two innings, striking out a batter.
Offensively, senior Warren Bowe had 4 hits, while sophomore Isaac Wellner had 3, and juniors Carter Matherne and Gabe Sikora each added 2 hits, while Weeks chipped in with a hit.
“Let’s keep the momentum going, boys,” said Geist.
April 26 vs. Fall Creek conference (W 7-4)
The next day, Cadott headed to Fall Creek, where the game started off slow, with neither team scoring in the opening inning, but Fall Creek made up for that in the second inning, knocking in three runs, but Cadott was not to be outdone, adding four runs in the next inning.
Neither team scored in the fourth inning, but the Hornets had three more runs cross the plate in the fifth. Fall Creek attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, coming up with a run, but Cadott held on, to take the win, 7-4.
“Solid game, defensively, as we battled all game, after falling behind…,” said Geist.
On the mound for the Hornets, was Bowe, who went four innings, giving up 5 hits, 3 runs and 5 walks, while striking out 10. Freshman Drew Rykal then went two innings, allowing 2 hits, a run and 3 walks, striking out 3 batters.
Weeks and sophomore Brock Folczyk each added 2 hits for Cadott, while Wellner, Bowe, D. Rykal, junior Michael Wellner and freshman Jacob Pilgrim all had a hit.
