Students Will Attend State FHA Convention

The Stratford chapter of the F.H.A. will be represented by Janet Hein, Bonnie Wilhelm, June Nikoly, Renee Spindler, Alice Wenzel and State Officer Deb Bohman when they attend the State F.H.A. conference in Green Lake. Mrs. Wisnewski, F.H.A. advisor, will accompany the delegates. Safety Patrol Students to go to Washington

Carol Thiesen, a student at St. Joseph’s school and Ronald Kubiaczyk, enrolled at the Stratford elementary school, have been chosen by their fellow safety patrol members as the outstanding patrolers this year. They will make the trip to Washington, D.C. in May.

Stratford students at State Forensics

Nineteen Stratford High School students attended the State Forensic competition at UW-Madison. Wendy Guralski earned a gold medal in Poetry. Silver medals went to Ryan Leick, Dan Rock, Nicole Niggemann, Heidi Stockheimer, Abby Bohnman, Mary Raliegh, Megan Rasmussen, Sara Knoll, and Jed Hannemann.

Bauman takes first at Greco-Roman wrestling tourney After wrestling all season in high school folk style wrestling, Matt Bauman has been practicing the Greco-Roman style of wrestling. Bauman beat his Cumberland opponent with two head locks and a series of gut-wrenches to earn a technical fall and win the state tournament.

Two FHA students earn gold

Fifteen Stratford FHAmembers competed in STAR events at Green Bay. Receiving gold and advancing to the national competition were Erin Newell and Laura Weigel.

Athletes of the year

Alois Dreikosen Post Commander, Leonard Booth, presented Athlete of the Year awards to Randy Krautkramer and Larry Heindl. It’s the first time in the history of the school that dual awards were presented. Krautkramer and Heindl were both named to the All-State Tournament Team as well as the Class C All-tournament team. Both are also active in baseball and football.

Leaving for state

Members of the Athens forensics team who received A ratings in the regional meet will be heading to the state tournament in Madison. Those students are Sandra Weiler, Sandi Guralski, Jolie Esselman, Judy Ellenbecker, Debbie Petznick, Lori Giese, Steve Braun, John Peter, Diane Ewan, Mary Ann Marchel and Doreen Gajewski. Members are coached by Mary Borke and Richard Pagel.

Freshmen trio

Representing Edgar at the state music contest in Eau Claire will be the freshamn triple trio. The group consists of Katie Callies, Vicki Scheffler, Lori Marino, Lynn Kurtzweil, Becky Blair, Tania Halverson, Laurel Kampmeier, Susan Selness and Colleen Untiedt.

Cassel forms land use committee

The Town of Cassel appointed a six member citizens land use planning committee. Members of the committee include Dan Lang, Don Adamski, Dennis Weix, Charles Lang, Jr., Charles Wilichowski and Bob Wadzinski Athens Prom court

This year’s 2000 Athens High Junior Prom Court members are Matt Belter, Kyle Newton, Travis Punke, Andy Ledesma, Justin Krueger, Justin Gajewski, Kris Kottke, Beth Zettler, Kasi Ellenbecker, Amy Massop, Diane Murkowski, Sarah Kornack, Kim Luetschwager and Jenny Henrichs.

2000 – Dashing for eggs

Marathon area children went scampering for 500 Easter eggs during a hunt at Riverside Park. The hunt was sponsored by the Marathon Police Department, Marathon City First Responders, Marathon Legion Auxiliary and area businesses.

Edgar Elementary School students recently took a field trip to the state capitol where they were welcomed by Rep. Jerry Petrowski (R-Marathon).
