Greenwood Museum Committee meets

A meeting of the Greenwood Museum Committee was called to order by Chairperson Pat Lindner on Aug. 8 at 6:35 p.m. at the museum. Committee members present were: Pat Lindner, Amy Achtner (new member), Steve Hemersbach, Jeff Block and Kurt Humke. Mayor Dave Hansen and Diane Wildish were also present.

The treasurer’s report was handed out for review and accepted as printed. Hansen made a motion to accept the treasurer’s report, seconded by Hemersbach. Motion carried.

The committee discussed making sure the public was aware of the correct museum hours, and Hemersbach suggested having the hours posted by the open sign by the museum when it is open.

Humke said museum attendance for July 6-7 was very good, with 17 on Saturday and 12 on Sunday. Hemersbach reported that there were seven in attendance on Aug. 4. There were some good donations as well.

The committee plans to open the museum for End of Summer Fest on Saturday, Sept. 7, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. They will have wine and cheese tasting along with crackers and popcorn. Hansen will check with Kayla Schar about using the popcorn machine. Hemersbach and Lindner will check with respective businesses about getting wine and cheese. Block and Wildish will bring their canopies.

Wildish said her daughter and son-in-law would like to donate the Greenwood Elementary school bell to the museum. The committee expressed interest in this donation. Diane also said that Sheila Barr would like to donate some pictures of the museum that were taken by her late husband, Larry Barr. The committee agreed to accept the donation.

Hansen passed around a deed/gift document for review that could be used between the donor and the museum committee. This document would be signed by the donor of larger items. It would record the donor’s wishes if they would decide to take back the donated item. Hemersbach will review this document in detail to make sure it is acceptable for the purpose that it is intended for.

Hansen also mentioned an item from a prior meeting: if the committee wanted the flower bed or prairie grass bed weeded, they would need to contact a 4-H club to complete this task. Wildish said the prairie grass bed was planted with native plants and flowers of the area.

Hansen made a motion to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Hemersbach. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
