Exciting year for agriculture department and FFA

By Sam Schmitt, ag teacher The Spencer Ag Department and FFA Chapter have had a very busy and exciting school year thus far. We are looking forward to the spring semester and our many events coming up. Our fall consisted of growing poinsettias, attending the National FFA Convention, participating in several FFA leadership conferences, having fun in the classroom, and participating in many other activities and events.

As we enter the spring semester, we look forward to growing our hanging baskets, building fishing poles, and cooking up some fun food science labs in the classroom. Our FFA and FFA Alumni also have some great events in store for the next several months.

Our amazing alumni group will be hosting the Mark L. Zimmerman Agricultural Science Learning Center: Bingo Night at the Stratford Heritage Barn on Feb. 22. Tickets can be bought using the link on our Facebook page.

On Feb. 26 and April 23, the Spencer FFA will be hosting blood drives at school through The Community Blood Center. Community participation in the blood drives help a great cause and can also help our students obtain scholarships. The Spencer FFA Alumni Farm Toy Show will take place on March 30. On Saturday, April 19, Spencer FFA will host our annual Easter Egg Hunt. We appreciate all of the community members who help to support us and are interested in what we are up to.
