LaVern Barbara Mitchell
1934-2024
LaVern Barbara Mitchell, 90, of Rib Lake, passed away on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024 at Rib Lake Health Services, under the care of Hope Hospice. Interment took place at Lakeview Cemetery on Dec. 3, 2024. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
LaVern was born on April 18, 1934 in Polley, in the town of Ford to Alfons and Lillian (Prokop) Mitchell Sr. She attended Berlin and Rib Lake schools.
LaVern worked for her parents at the National Hotel, doing various jobs. She also helped her mother cater many wedding and parties. She was a very good cook and excellent baker; even making a beautiful three tier wedding cake for her brother’s wedding. LaVern was a kind-hearted woman with a big smile who would give anyone the shirt off of her back. Although she did have a bit of a stubborn streak and liked to take charge of things (anyone who knew her would agree).
LaVern spent many years as a dedicated volunteer at the Rib Lake Senior Center. She loved helping people. She also enjoyed embroidering, crocheting, listening to Polka music on Sundays, watching baseball on TV & local games, and putting puzzles together (she always said there wasn’t a puzzle she couldn’t put together). She also enjoyed taking the occasional trip to Marshfield with her sister-in-law and niece to go shopping, visit Wildwood Zoo, and out to eat at a local restaurant for liver and onions; many laughs were had on those trips.
LaVern was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
LaVern is survived by her sisters Alice (Bill) Barton of Poquodon, Va. and Phyllis Guetzloff of Lodi; sisterin- law, Jackie Mitchell of Rib Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
LaVern was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Lucille Konwinksi, Dolores Sikora, Jerri Gideon, Raymond Mnichowicz, and Alfons Jr.
The family of LaVern would like to thank the staff of Hope Hospice for the excellent care, making her comfortable during her last days, and Hemer-Pickering Funeral Services of Medford for assisting the family with her arrangements.
