Band original to Civil War offers listeners trip back in time
Shown above are members of the 1st Brigade Band, a group from Watertown that performs Civil War-era brass band music on antique instruments. The 1st Brigade Band was first formed in 1864, when eighteen men from the Brodhead Brass Band enlisted in the Union Army as the band of the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 15th Army Corps. They left their rural Wisconsin homes to participate, under the command of General William T. Sherman, in the campaigns of Northern Georgia and the Carolinas. Now, music from that time period has been brought back to life through today’s musicians. The band will perform at the Tack Center Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. Visit lucilletackcenter.com for tickets.
