Runners hit growing pains

By Ginna Young

In their first outing of the year, the Lake Holcombe cross country team was at Bruce, Aug. 27, on the Dodson’s Memorial Recreational Area course, which is not an easy trek for the athletes.

“They were a little stiff and sore,” said coach Greg “Cookie” Anderson. “Growing pains, I guess.”

For the boys, junior Alex Dixon finished in 42nd place, in a time of 22:19.92. Anderson feels that Dixon was disappointed with the time, but was initially at 6.24, when he reached the first mile. Since Dixon got out fast so quick, he had to back off, before he exhausted himself.

Freshman Lane Porter was the lone runner for the girls’ side, coming in 50th (30:27.94).

The program can now build from that meet under their belts.

“It went pretty good,” said Anderson.
