Eleven members of Medford’s Rainbow Gymnastics Club competed Saturday in the Wisconsin AAU District Championships in Onalaska with one earning an age group championship.

Aurelia Brushaber was the champion, outscoring eight other gymnasts in the Level 3 9B age group by earning an all-around score of 36.05 in her four events. She finished just ahead of Kara Sieracki (35.8) of the Gymlingo Academy of Oconomowoc and Willow Kowalchuk (34.9) of Hartford Gymnastics.

In the age group competition, Brushaber won the uneven bars with a 9.125, won the floor exercise with an 8.6, tied Sieracki for the top vault score with a 9.45 and was third on the balance beam at 8.875.

Also in Level 3 at age 10, Rainbow’s Lillian Nemitz-Coleman had an all-around score of 29.75, including an 8.9 on vault that placed seventh, a 7.25 on bars, a 7.05 on beam and a 6.55 on floor.

Raylin Rothmeier earned an all-around score of 35.075, while Veronica Mateer finished at 33.175 as they placed third and sixth overall in the 13-15 age group at Level 7. Rothmeier wasn’t far behind champion Sophie Wanke of the Eau Claire YMCA (35.975) and Brianna Meyer of Tumble Thyme Gymnastics of Beaver Dam (35.725). She won the beam championship with an 8.9, was third on vault at 9.225, third on bars at 8.0 and fifth on floor at 8.95. Mateer was fourth on the floor with her 8.975, fourth on beam at 8.325, sixth on vault at 9.075 and seventh on bars at 6.8.

Shayla Radlinger and Delaina Meyer competed in Level 8. Radlinger finished second out of four gymnasts in the 16-18 age group with her all-around score of 29.675, less than a point behind Taylor Revoir of Bloomer’s Phoenix Gymnastics Club (30.425). Radlinger was second on vault (8.0) and bars (6.0) and third on beam (7.55) and floor (8.125).

Meyer was third out of seven gymnasts in the 14-15 age group with all-around score of 31.475. She was third on beam (7.325) and floor (8.45) and fourth on bars (7.3) and vault (8.4).

Kyla Krause and Katelyn Malchow faced some tough competition among 15-18 year-olds in the open optionals. Krause placed fourth all-around at 33.475, while Malchow was seventh at 31.25. Krause took third on bars at 7.675, fourth on vault at 9.0, fourth on beam at 8.4 and sixth on floor at 8.4. Malchow was sixth on vault (8.3) and bars (7.125) and seventh on beam (8.0) and floor (7.825).

In Level 6, Olivia Schaefer placed sixth out of 12 gymnasts in the 10-12 age group. Schaefer’s all-around score of 32.9 included fourth-place finishes on beam (8.35) and floor (9.0), an eighth on bars (6.8) and a tie for ninth on vault (8.75).

In Level 2, Tinley Hamm found some success in the 9A age group while placing fifth with an all-around score of 34.425. That included winning the vault with a score of 9.2 and tying for third on the beam at 9.025. Hamm was fourth on floor (8.325) and eighth on bars (7.875). In the 8A age group, Miranda Potocnik placed sixth with a total score of 34.975. She was third on vault at 9.0, fifth on beam at 8.85, sixth on bars at 9.125 and 10th on floor (8.0).


Branch Walton of Westboro, an 11-year-old fifth grade student at Medford Area Middle School, completes a squat lift at the National Athletic Strength Association state championship in Milwaukee on April 22. Walton was able to squat 193.8 pounds during the competition which is being reviewed for a possible national record for his age. Walton won the 165-pound weight class at the state meet by lifting a total of 464.07 pounds (210.5 kilograms), including a 189-pound dead lift and an 89-pound bench press.
