LG softball defeats Bangor to advance in playoffs

The Loyal-Greenwood (LG) softball team traveled to Bangor last week for the first round of postseason play and successfully advanced to the next round after earning the win. Bangor, the number-eight seed, scored only four runs to LG’s eight.
Addison Davidson pitched the May 18 win for LG. In seven innings, she struck out six, walked two and allowed five hits. Top hitters for LG were: Mya Rueth, who went 3-5 with two runs; Tysen Lindner, who also went 3-5 and had one run; and Anna Lindner, who went 2-4. Also scoring runs for the LG Wolves were Delaney Kirchner, Aspen Hagen, Tiffany Mitte, Morgan Raese and Davidson. Hagen had two walks and Courtney Rakovec, Mitte and Raese each had one.
Mauston game Prior to the Bangor game, LG wrapped up its regular season with a non-conference game at Mauston May 16. The LG Wolves put a nice cap on their season with a 15-4 victory. Davidson was the winning pitcher for LG, striking out nine. She allowed six hits and walked three.
Hitters for LG were: Anna Lindner, who went 2-3 with three runs, including a home run, and a walk; Kirchner, who went 1-2 with three runs and three walks; Raese, who also was 1-2 with one run and one walk; and Tatym Travis, who went 1-2 with one walk. Also scoring runs were Rueth with three, Tysen Lindner with two and Rakovec, Mitte and Davidson with one.
Rueth, Tysen Lindner, Mitte and Davidson each walked twice.
One of the things that hurt Mauston the most was sloppy playing, as Mauston accumulated 15 errors over the course of the game while LG had just two.
LG played number-one seed Blair-Taylor at Blair-Taylor on Tuesday, which was after deadline. Coverage will appear in next week’s paper.
Spencer’s Jonathan Jonas (r) and Elliot Bauer compete in the 200m dash at the conference track meet. Jonas won the event and Bauer took fourth.
