Trustees approve $5 decrease for Edgar park deposits
Deposit fees for renting Edgar parks will be going down slightly after a vote by the village board earlier this week. All rental deposit fees will be decreasing by $5, leading to a small increase in profit for the village.
By lowering the deposit amounts, which are typically returned to renters as long as all rules are followed, the village retains the extra $5. For instance, to rent Minnow Ponds Park, someone would have paid a $75 rental fee including a $30 deposit fee in the past. With the new pay structure, the deposit amount will only be $25, leading to the village keeping $50 instead of $45.
During the Edgar Village Board’s organizational meeting on Monday, trustees voted to approve the slight deposit decrease after a discussion about costs to operate the parks. Trustee Jon Streit proposed the idea after talking about the money involved in maintaining the parks, such as staff time spent cleaning restrooms and the cost of paper products.
Before the changes were approved, the park rental deposit fees ranged from $45 for both shelters at Oak Street Park to $15 for Scotch Creek Park. The highest will now be $40 and the lowest $10.

The board received an update about street projects, including news that the village’s street sweeper broke down when staff went to begin street sweeping on Monday. According to Village Administrator Jennifer Lopez, a faulty hose was repaired on Tuesday, with plans to resume street sweeping on Wednesday.
A payment of $102,210.98 for engineering, legal and supply costs relating to the village’s wastewater treatment and lift station project will be paid after the board approval at the meeting. The village is currently waiting to advertise for bids for street work, originally scheduled for this year, which has been paired with plans for the wastewater project. Engineering officials have been mulling over whether to change construction completion dates or delay bidding to allow for 2024 construction due to factors including Marathon County’s plans for work on Highway H next year.
Trustees approved alley and parking lot closures for Chalk Fest, which will be held June 23-24. During the event, the entrances to Edgar Village Hall and the alley past Stark’s Floral will be closed off.
