Wrapping up their season at State competition March 24-25, the Cornell archery program headed to Wisconsin Dells, to shoot for a chance at advancing to the next level.
“We, the team, did not qualify for Nationals, but individuals are able to go and participate on their own, if they desire to,” said coach John Kilde.
The State trip was not without its successes, as junior Carter Harycki earned a school record in bulleyes, with a score of 291, and in individual rankings, he scored a 284, finishing in fourth place in his grade level, while eighth grader Kyleigh Mercer placed seventh, shooting a 273.
Placing in the top 20 for the Chiefs, were freshman Addy DeJongh, in 12th, 269; senior Elliott Peterson, in 15th, 268; junior Faith Kubista, in 15th, 272; and eighth grader Ara Ferguson, in 20th, 266.
“The whole high school team lettered in archery this season,” said Kilde. “That requires a score of 260 or higher to qualify. So, we had a very exciting season.”
