Joan Rau
Joan L. Rau, age 88, of Dorchester, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023, at The Waterford under the tender care of Heartland Hospice.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday. A live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website.
Joan was born on July 11, 1935, the daughter of Russell and Lois (Capes) Strohkirch. She graduated from Owen High School and moved to Milwaukee, where she worked at Mobil Oil for 13 years. Joan was united in marriage to William Rau on October 3, 1964. She worked on the farm near Dorchester and worked at the Dorchester Elementary School during lunch. Later on, Joan worked for 12 years at Hardees.
Joan enjoyed flower gardening, collecting Santa Claus, and refinishing furniture. She also was a member of the Busy Homemakers Club. Joan also enjoyed adventures with her friends, Rose and Shirley.
Joan is survived by her three daughters: Susan Rau of Marshfield, Linda (Rob) Jaenke of Eau Claire and Kimberly Rau of Medford; two grandchildren: Carter Jaenke and Morgan Jaenke, both of Eau Claire; her siblings: Elaine (Jerry) Fischer of Hartford and Scott (Cheryl) Strohkirch of Owen; four sisters-inlaw: Shirley Rau, Arlene Rau, Gale Strohkirch and Vera Strohkirch; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William on August 13, 2020; two brothers: Ken and Jerry Strohkirch, and her sister, Judy Frelka.
Memorials may be given to Dorchester EMS or Dorchester Veterans Memorial Park.
