It was off to No. 4 Boyceville May 22, for the No. 5 Cadott softball program, in the first leg of WIAA playoffs. Boyceville got out on top in the first inning, with a run, along with another in the second, but the Hornets tied it up in the third inning.
Cadott went on to add two more runs in the fourth, but Boyceville wasn’t done and scored two runs in the fifth to tie it back up. Cadott had two more runs cross the plate in the sixth, as did Boyceville, then the score remained tied at 6-6 until the bottom of the ninth, when Boyceville got a run in to end the game, 7-6, and the Hornets’ season.
Junior Kasey Moldrem had a strong night on the mound, punching out 9 batters and throwing out 4 additional batters at first base. She also had a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning, giving the Hornets the lead.
Sophomore Lexi Bremness hit a double, with two RBIs in the top of the fourth, to pull ahead, while senior Bradee Burish and junior Rilei Weeks each had two hits on the night.
“The girls ended the game with 10 hits overall,” said assistant coach Allie Webster.
