Abby CC races at Weyauwega

Last Thursday, the Abbotsford Falcons girls cross country team competed in their final event before the Marawood conference meet, traveling to Weyauwega- Fremont to take on athletes from 16 other schools. The team took 10th place, scoring 251 points.

The Bonduel Bears grabbed first place in the girls competition, finishing with a total of 71 points. Berlin took second with 78 points and the Colby Hornets took third with 96 points.

Azul Diaz put up another top-15 finish for the Falcons, placing 12th overall at last Thursday’s meet. The junior set a new personal best to earn the placement, shaving off 13 seconds from her old record and finishing in 21:10.

Iris Cruz was the team’s second runner, coming in 53rd place with a time of 24:50, which was 13 seconds faster than her time at the prior meet in Athens.

Monse Ochoa, who has established herself as the Falcons’ third runner, placed 65th with a time of 25:40, which generally kept pace with her current PR mark of 25:30, which she set in Athens.

For the second straight meet, Asia Atkinson ran the fastest race of her career. Like Diaz and Ochoa, she had set a new personal record at the prior meet and she once again saw improvement at Weyauwega. Atkinson put up a time of 26:41, taking off another half-minute off of her previous PR, which was already a minute and a half faster than her old PR. Her performance earned her 71st place.

Ana Flores rounded out the Falcons’ lineup, finishing in 28:24 to finish in 79th.

Abbotsford will travel to Frey Field just outside of Spencer for the Marawood conference meet this Thursday, Oct. 12. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
