2 injured in SUV vs. buggy crash east of Loyal

Last Thursday, Sept. 28, a crash occurred near Advanced Auto east of Loyal at approximately 11:40 a.m.

According to the crash report provided by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, an SUV was traveling westbound on State Highway 98 near Catlin Avenue when it struck a horse and buggy with one occupant. The buggy was destroyed upon impact, throwing the occupant and horse into the ditch. The SUV driver stated she did not see the horse and buggy until it was too late, and that she tried to swerve to miss the horse and buggy and drove off the right side of the road towards the ditch. The vehicle rolled multiple times before it came to rest on the driver’s side in the ditch.

The horse was deceased in the ditch when law enforcement arrived on scene. Both the SUV driver and buggy driver were transported to Marshfield Medical Center with suspected serious injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately half an hour to allow room for a medical flight, law enforcement, tow truck, and fire and EMS personnel. The scene was cleared at 12:41 p.m.

The SUV driver was cited for inattentive driving and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
