Marathon City 2020 raising money for Heritage Center

Marathon City 2020 Ltd. has been making great things happen in the Village of Marathon since 2015.

This year, the volunteer-run organization has established a fundraising campaign to ensure their community-enhancement initiatives will continue. Their “Fill the Cup” fundraising campaign kicked off in February and runs through May 31.

Donations can be made online by mailing checks payable to MC2020 Ltd. to PO Box 423, Marathon, WI 54448, or dropping off payments in person at Peoples State Bank in Marathon.

Marathon City 2020, Ltd. is hoping to raise $10,000 in donations to pay for ongoing and ever-increasing expenses needed to operate and maintain the Marathon City Heritage Center. The center’s expenses run approximately $400 per month for general maintenance, insurance, utility fees, and necessary supplies and artifact storage systems. The organization also needs cash reserves to replace aging equipment and make non-urgent but appropriate upgrades to the facility.

Marathon City 2020 Ltd. (MC2020) oversees all property maintenance and operates the Heritage Center, taking no administrative salaries and donating volunteer time and resources whenever possible. However, without a steady and reliable income source for the center, committee members established a fundraising goal and are asking for community support. Through the Heritage Center, MC2020 preserves and promotes the Village of Marathon’s long, storied history. The organization also hosts many community events and initiatives, including:

n Free performances each summer during Main Street Music Series

n Fresh flowers and vegetables shared from the Heritage Center Park planters

n Outdoor pocket park with picnic tables, seating, shade, and raised stage

n Main Street beautification efforts with planted flowers and street banners

n Rental opportunities for private parties, class reunions, and more

n Experiences tied to community events According to MC2020 President, Edee Zuleger, donations from supporters make all this possible. “Heritage Center artifacts bring the history of our community to all who visit but it is so much more than that. It provides a place to gather and enjoy all that Marathon City is and sparks ideas of how to grow for the future. Your donation of time or money ensures the heritage center will continue to be a productive asset in our community.”
