Chiefs shut out competition

By Ginna Young

Cornell’s volleyball program is making quick work of their opponents, with the season barely underway.

Aug. 29 vs. Bruce, conference (W 3-0)

To open the season, Bruce came to call for a triangular match-up, but their offense wasn’t there. Cornell walked away with the win in three sets, 25-7, 25-10 and 25-9.

Senior Brooke Anderson led the team in kills, with 10, while senior Brooke Sime had 9. Sime also had 8 aces and senior Marcella Boehm was strong at the serving line, with 5 aces.

Aug. 29 vs. Flambeau, conference (W 3-0)

Next up in the triangular, was Flambeau, who proved more of a challenge, but, ultimately, also fell in three sets, 25-17, 25-14 and 25-11.

“Flambeau was able to put up a challenging block against our hitters, but with some adjustments, Brooke Sime was able to get 12 kills, and Brooke Anderson had 5 and she also had 5 aces,” said coach Amy Lorenzen.

Junior Bralee Schroeder ran the offense and had 49 assists on the night.

Aug. 31 vs. New Auburn, conference (W 3-0)

To complete the week, the Chiefs then hosted New Auburn for a conference bout. Cornell made short work of the visitors, taking a 25-10, 25-16 and 25-18 victory, to remain undefeated in the early season.
