By Ginna Young

Meeting on Lake Holcombe’s court Feb. 6, the Chieftains and Cornell Chiefs saw a girls basketball match-up. The score was evenly distributed in the first half of the game, but by the second half, scoring dried up for Cornell and the Chieftains claimed a 56-38 victory.

“We played well and had contributions from just about everybody,” said Lake Holcombe coach Chris Clark. “We just want to keep putting all the pieces together, as we approach playoff time.”

Senior Emma Lechleitner, back from an injury, came away with 20 points for the Chieftains, followed by junior Abby Jones, with 12, and freshman Payton Birkenholz, who had 7. Junior Chloe Lee was right behind, with 6 points, as well as freshman Katya Kuc, with 5.

Sophomore Alexia Hoffner was next, with 4 points and freshman Maria Andres recorded 2.

For Cornell, junior Bralee Schroeder led with 15 and 6 rebounds, while freshman Haylee Ellis added 7 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Lauren Samardzich finished with 6 points and 5 blocks, and junior Alyssa Bowe notched 5 points.

Senior Grace Harycki added 3 points and senior Teryn Close chipped in with 2.
