Gilman board OKs phone installation at lift station

Braving the oncoming inclement weather, Jan. 10, the Gilman Village Board met to go over some business, along with a public hearing beforehand and the annual caucus, to decide whose names will be on the April election ballot.

One item of business that needed to be done right away – and was approved – is installing a phone line at the lift station.

“There’s a line there, but it’s disconnected and I didn’t know that,” said village clerk Candice Grunseth.

Instead of going through the same company that provides the voice over internet for the village, Ntera was chosen for the regular line at the lift station. In the event the power goes out, the voiceover feature won’t work at the lift station.

Ntera is also cheaper, per month, at $19.99, plus long distance for $.10 a minute, in six-second increments.

Since no one from the community was present at the public hearing to express concerns, the board also approved the village’s new Floodplain Ordinance, something that the government is requiring of municipalities located along a river.

Members also approved Resolution 2024-01, as a budget amendment, making adjustments that are needed. With the amendment, there’s an increase of revenues for interest income, while with expenditures, increases occurred for street construction, street maintenance and the cemetery. However, the amendment shows a decrease in summer salary and capital outlay.

During the caucus, it was determined that incumbents Ericka Bertsinger, Dee Bornheimer and Cheryl Rosemeyer, would be on the ballot for spring.
