Many helped with Santa Claus party Saturday
The Chamber of Commerce and volunteers from the American Legion Auxiliary filled 850 sacks with treats and gifts for those who came to see Santa at the armory.
Gordon Knight wins in cross country races
Knight, who attended Abbotsford High School and set a new record for the mile run for Class C high schools at the state meet during his senior year, was presented a trophy for taking first in four cross country races held while he was serving in Korea. His best time for the three mile course was 15 minutes and 45 seconds.

Hornets win at Neillsville, 62-61
Colby’s boys basketball team held on in a nailbiter against Neillsville. After leading for much of the game, the Hornets fell behind late before Brian Eggebrecht made four straight free throws to put the Hornets back on top.
Fire destroys Engel chicken coop, barn
A fire of undetermined origin completely destroyed the chicken coop and barn of Walter Engel on early Friday morning. The Abbotsford fire department kept the fire from spreading further and remained on the scene for two hours.
Marathon Farmer Union meets
The Marathon County Farmers Union discussed the merits of limitations on usage of snowmobiles or other vehicles in the face of an energy crisis. They also touched on imports of dairy products like milk and cheese.

Abby board schedules special meeting to discuss curriculum revisions
The Abbotsford school board will examine numerous changes to the classes offered by the district in response to changes in society and technology, employment trends and a need to match curriculum to the state’s standardized testing.
Marawood, Cloverbelt will see a shakeup soon
The WIAA’s recent decision to add private schools to the already established public school conferences will change the makeup of both local athletic conferences. The change is to go into effect starting in the 2000-2001 school year.
