Abbotsford freshman Oriah Harris was everywhere during a 13-point first half and the Falcons cut and passed their way to key scores in the second half Tuesday while pulling away for a 52-39 Marawood North win over the host Redmen.
Rib Lake’s Avery Niemi scored the first basket of the game, hitting a midrange jumper off a kickout from Tessa Weik, then Abbotsford scored the next seven points and never trailed again to even its Marawood record at 2-2 and improve its overall mark to 2-4.
The Redmen fell to 1-3 in the Marawood and 3-4 overall.
The Redmen kept it close through the first nine minutes, getting a Weik score off a Niemi assist and then a 3-pointer from the right corner from Weik to stay within 10-8.
But Abbotsford went on an 11-1 spurt to open up a 21-9 lead with Harris getting seven of those points. Harris already had two three-point plays before that in her big first half. She finished with a gamehigh 17 points for the Falcons.
Down 26-14 at half, Rib Lake got four early points in the second half from Addison Gumz but were unable to make progress in shrinking the deficit. Scores by Josie Scheithauer, Weik and Maddie Blomberg made it 38-24, and a steal and score by Scheithauer and a Weik hoop made it 42-28, but Abbotsford’s offensive execution got short, open looks for Harris, Sydney Falteisek and Nevaeh Treankler to push the lead to 20.
Weik and Scheithauer led Rib Lake with 10 points apiece. Scheithauer scored all of her points in the second half. Niemi added nine points. Gumz chipped in with six points and Blomberg and Tahlia Scheithauer both added a bucket.
Sommer Brodhagen scored 13 points for Abbotsford and Falteisek added 12.

Edgar 47, Rib Lake 34
Rib Lake scrapped its way to a fourpoint halftime lead at Edgar Friday, but the Wildcats took charge in the second half breaking the Marawood Conference crossover open with a huge 18-0 run and pulling away for a 47-34 win.
The game was ultimately decided in the paint. Rib Lake let several good scoring opportunities get away, making just nine of 28 shots in the paint.
Edgar, on the other hand, took control when it made a determined effort to the get the ball inside in the second half, most often to Makayla Wirkus, who scored of the 18 points in the big secondhalf run. Edgar made 14 of its 35 shots in the paint and now sits at 4-2 overall and 1-2 in Marawood Conference play.
Overall, Rib Lake made 12 of 40 field goal tries (30%) and didn’t help itself with 26 turnovers. But the Redmen also forced 19 Edgar turnovers and got to the free throw line 20 times, making nine, in this sometimes rough-and-tumble matchup that included 35 total fouls.
Rib Lake took the lead with a 9-0 in the final four minutes of the first half. Down 14-10, the Redmen got a score on the left baseline from Addison Gumz and then two free throws from Tahlia Scheithauer to tie it with 3:26 left. Baskets by Kiana Dallmann and Tahlia Scheithauer and an Isabelle Gumz free throw with 1:11 left made it 19-14. Josie Scheithauer’s late free throw answered an Emery Borchardt basket and put Rib Lake up 20-16 at the break.
The Redmen continued to battle and led 23-22 on a Weik free throw with 12:49 left when things broke down. The Redmen did not make a field goal in the first 14:22 of the half, finally getting a threepoint play by Dallmann with 3:38 left. But by then they trailed 40-23.
Addison Gumz scored 10 points and had two steals for Rib Lake. Tahlia Scheithauer scored seven points and had five rebounds. Weik scored six points and led the Redmen with seven rebounds. Dallmann chipped in with five points. Josie Scheithauer had three points and three rebounds, Emma Tlusty had a bucket and nine defensive deflections.
Wirkus scored 21 points.
Rib Lake 68, Flambeau 29
Rib Lake showed what it is capable of defensively when it downed the visiting Flambeau Falcons 68-29 in a non-conference matchup Thursday.
The Redmen forced 48 Flambeau turnovers Tahlia Scheithauer led the way with six steals. Josie Scheithauer added five steals and Blomberg had four.
Flambeau’s last lead came at 6-4. The next time down the court, Rib Lake decided to apply some full-court pressure and was able to turn that defense into offense. Tahlia Scheithauer and Tlusty trapped a Flambeau guard off of the inbound pass and forced an errant pass that was stolen by Josie Scheithauer. She got fouled as she attempted a layup and made both free throws to tie it at 6-6.
Rib Lake continued the pressure forcing four straight turnovers that led to six Redmen points including a steal off an inbound pass by Tahlia Scheithauer, who then made a great pass to Tlusty for an easy layup.
After a Flambeau timeout, the Redmen were able to keep up with the defensive pressure going on a 15-0 run to extend their lead to 19-6. During the stretch the Redmen forced many turnovers, many times before the Falcons could even get a field goal attempt.
After a Falcon basket, the Redmen went on another run, this time scoring eight consecutive points to make the score 27-8. The Redmen would not look back, extending their lead to 41-14 at halftime.
Coming out in the second half, the Redmen took their foot off the gas by not pressing the Falcons. The Falcons took advantage of that and found a little bit more success while running their half court offense. But the Redmen would slowly pull away, winning the game by 39 points.
Tlusty was efficient for the Redmen making eight of her 11 shots. She led the way for Rib Lake with 19 points. Weik had a double-double adding 15 points and securing 10 rebounds, while Josie Scheithauer had 10 points.
Dallmann and Addison Gumz had six points apiece. Blomberg added four points. Tahlia Scheithauer, Madison Grzanna, Neimi and Isabelle Gumz all added two points each.
