Lemmer family is passionate about

Edgar football

After the Edgar varsity football team’s 40-6 road win against Stratford this season, I saw Charlie Lemmer of Edgar pose for a family photo with his son-inlaw and numerous grandchildren who are either current or former Wildcats football players and current assistant football coaches.

It’s remarkable the numerous connections the Lemmer family has to Edgar’s football program. Charlie and his late wife, Victoria, have seven daughters who all have children of their own.

The large group photo taken included Charlie Lemmer with his son-in-law, Edgar football defensive coordinator Greg Streit. The photo also consisted of Charlie Lemmer’s grandsons Andrew Lukasko and brothers Alec and Kaleb Hafferman who are also Wildcats assistant football coaches.

Charlie Lemmer’s grandson, Jeremy Lukasko, is the Edgar football team’s statistician. The Lukasko brothers and Hafferman brothers are cousins with current Edgar football players Karter and Maverick Butt, Harrison Graveen, Teegan and Tucker Streit and Dawson Bornheimer along with former Wildcats players Karson and Mattison Butt.

Don’t count on the Lemmer family’s connection to Edgar’s football program ending any time soon. Mclain Butt, the youngest of Mike and Kari Butt’s seven children, is a second grader at Edgar Elementary School along with Greg and Mandy’s Streit’s son, Tyus, and Andrew and Tiffany Lukasko’s son, Eli.

It’s interesting to see the passion Edgar and Stratford football parents have for their children who are football players. Holly Dehlinger, the mother of current Stratford star football player Gavin Leonhardt, can be seen on the Tigers football sideline snapping photos of her son and his teammates during games. She wears earrings with her son’s Stratford football jersey number 23 on them.

Dehlinger took a photo of me interviewing her son Gavin after Stratford won the WIAA Division 6 state championship against Mondovi last season at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison. She also took a photo of me interviewing Gavin on Friday night in Auburndale after he scored four touchdowns to help Stratford beat Auburndale, 40-7, in a WIAA Division 6 Level 3 playoff game. I selected it as this newspaper’s Without Words photo this week.

I am predicting that both Edgar and Stratford’s football teams will win their Level 4 playoff games this Friday.
