thens MCPL Story Time

Children of all ages and their parents or caregivers are invited to the Athens library branch for these 30-minute programs. There will be reading, singing and other literature- based activities on Mondays, November 13, 20 and 27, 10:30-11 a.m.

Senior Card Group

The Senior Citizens card group met on November 2 for weekly card playing at the Athens Area Fire and Ambulance Hall. Three games of Sheepshead were played. Steve Klockziem won the first game and Pat Frank took second place. Dave Perrodin won the second game and Butch Boris took second. Andy Hoeft won the third game and Will Strack took second. Norbert Belter received low score.

Newcomers are encouraged to come play Sheepshead every Thursday from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at the Athens fire hall.

MCPL Book Club

Join Athens library staff and other local readers for a discussion of “Tuck Everlasting,” at 2 p.m. on November 14.

dgar MCPL Story Time

Story times for children of all ages and their parents/caregivers will be held on the first and third Tuesday of the month at the Edgar library branch. There will be stories, songs and other literature-based activities during the 30-minute program on Tuesday, November 21, 11-11:30 a.m.

Medicare 101

Adults can learn Medicare basics at a program on November 8, 4-5 p.m., at the Edgar library branch. The presentation will be led by a local life and health insurance agent, but is noncommerical in nature and for informational purposes only.

Whitetail Night

Held at Edgar High School, Whitetail Night is a free event for deer hunters the Monday before opening day. It will be held November 13 at 7 p.m. There will be door prizes and raffles available. The topic will be using drones to locate wounded deer, with speakers Kyle Ziembo, DNR warden, and Nick Wayerski with Marshfield Drones.

MCPL Book Club

Head to the Edgar library on November 14, 12 p.m., for next month’s discussion on “All Creatures Great & Small.” New members are always welcome; just read the book and attend the event.

Pokémon Club

The monthly Pokémon Club for upper-elementary and middle school-aged kids will be held on November 20, 4-5 p.m., at the Edgar library branch. The library offers different Pokémon activities each month and the opportunity to play the card game with other kids.

Holiday Parade

The village’s annual Holiday Parade will be held on Sunday, Dec. 10, starting at 1 p.m.

M

arathon Pins for Veterans Day

This year the American Legion Auxillary Unit 469 of Marathon will be gifting flag pins to the faculty and students in the Marathon School District.

The pins will be given out in the classrooms by the staff. The students will be wearing these during the veterans programs at the schools.

Holly Days

Marathon City will host its annual Holly Days celebration on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. Santa Claus will be at the The Heritage Center, along with a collection of Christmas trees. The fire department will host arts and crafts, food and musical performances. Treats and tractor rides through the woods will be held at St. Anthony’s.

Wisconsin fighter pilots

The Stratford library will host a presentation on Wisconsin’s ace fighter pilots on Tuesday, Nov. 14, from 2 to 3 p.m. Author Mike O’Connor will talk about his new book, “Badger Aces: Wisconsin Fighter Aces 1917-1972”, which chronicles the state’s fighter pilots from World War I through the Vietnam War. O’Connor used combat and sqaudron records, personal reminiscenes and more to tell the tales of skilled pilots who downned five aircraft in battle, becoming air aces.

Deer dumpster

The Central Wisconsin Conservation Club Inc., in conjunction with Marathon County Waste Management, will be sponsoring a dumpster for the disposal of deer carcass waste (rib cages, heads, legs and fat scrap) during the upcoming deer firearms season. The dumpster will be placed in the Edgar Waste Disposal site, located off of East Limits Road. There will also be a separate container placed there for unwanted deer hides, which will be donated to the Lions Camp for the Blind. The dumpster will be there November 16 through December 10.

This program is being done for the surrounding community to help keep the environment cleaner from improperly disposed of carcasses in rural ditches. People are asked to only use the dumpster for the waste it is intended for so that the project can continue to grow in the future.
